Bebe Rose is a quintessentially feminine design for your little baby girl, and it is practical and versatile, too. The timeless proportions of the smock make it easy to put on and take off, with just the three-buttons at the yoke. The wonderful, full smock shape fits easily over any number of layers the baby is wearing.
Bebe Rose is easy knitting on #4 needles in Stockinette Stitch bordered with bands of lightly textured Seed Stitch at the bottom and sleeve edges and up the fronts, as well as defining the beginning of the yoke.
The Lattice Stitch simulates ‘smocking’ with raised knit stitches crisscrossing on the diagonal. A little attention is warranted while working the yoke. Just a little. The front neck-shaping decreases break into the Lattice, demanding close attention for a few rows on the fronts in order to stay ‘in pattern’.
We knit our Bebe Rose prototypes in a variety of yarns from a wonderful cotton/wool blend to a crisp 100% wool - and the design held up nicely in all of the different fibers and blends.
Small Mother-of-Pearl buttons – ½” to 3/8”- matching the yarn color are best – understated - and do the job nicely.
